The city of Dibrugarh, situated on the banks of the River Brahmaputra, in the Upper Districts of Assam, The name Dibrugarh is derived from Dibarumukh the mouth(mukh) of the river Dibaru.Dibarugarh is bounded by Dhemaji district on the north, Tinsukia district on the east, Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh on the south-east and Sibsagar district on the north and south-west. The area stretches from the north bank of the mighty Brahmaputra, which flows for a length of 95 km through the northern margin of the district, to the Patkai foothills on the south.Situated on the southern bank of the Brahamaputra, it is a major railhead and airport in the north-eastern part of the country; it also has an extremely well-developed and well-maintained road network which connects it to the neighbouring states. Crude oil and tea comprise the major industries of this district.In Dibrugarh one can go around the tea gardens which are located in and around the town. A large number of tea estates are located along NH-37 covering large area of Dibrugarh district.
Places Of Tourist Interest
In Dibrugarh tourist attractions are not quite remarkable, but a planned town has been built up at Bar-bari surrounding Assam Medical College. Further there is a dam constructed at a huge cost with a view to saving the town from the devastating flood of Brahmaputra. The natural atmosphere is quite charming.
