Vasco da Gama (vasco) is a city in the Goa state on the west coast of India. It is named after the Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama.The city lies on the western tip of the Mormugao peninsula, at the mouth of the Zuari River, about 30 km from Panaji and about 5 kms from the Dabolim Airport.Vasco is a key shipping center, with container vessels and iron ore barges clogging the river mouth, but doesn’t hold anything special for visitors. The only usual reasons for tourists to come to Vasco is to catch a bus to Dabolim airport, or the Bogmalo beach that lies 8-km southeast. Its city center is dominated by imposing multi-storied buildings and a church.
Tourist Places in Vasco Da Gama
Some of the places of tourist interest are the Pilot Point at Headland Sada, this place offers a magnificent view of the port and the mouth of the Zuari river as well as the Arabian Ocean. Another place at the Headland is the Japanese Garden. Baina Beach is just a walk away from the city. Considered as one of the safest beach in Goa. Bogmalo beach is situated just 8 kms from here.
How To Reach Vasco Da Gama?
By Air : Dabolim is the nearest airport 4-km southeast of Vasco da Gama.
By Rail : Vasco is laid out in a grid, bordered by Marmagao bay to the north, and by the railway line on its southern side. Apart from the cluster of oil storage tanks, the town's most prominent landmark is the railway station at the south end of the main Dr. Rajendra Prasad Avenue.
By Road : Arriving by bus from Panjim or Margao, you'll be dropped off at the Interstate Kadamba Terminus, 3-km east of the town centre. Local minibuses ferry passengers from here to the more central market bus stand. |
