Barkot is a small town in Uttarkashi District in the state of Uttarakhand, India. Most travellers tend to use Barkot as a base camp for their trip up to Yamunotri. But it would be well worth their while to spend some time here. The town has a distinctly different feel and culture which is particularly evident in the village.. It also has a wealth of natural beauty, not the least of which are its spectacular sunsets and a panoramic view of the Banderpunch mountains.

Shri Laxmi-Narayan Mandir:
This temple is dedicated to lord Vishnu and it is said that it was built by the Pandavas originally.

Shri Chandreshwar Mahadev Mandir
The temple is believed to have been built in the reign of King Sahastrabahu during ancient times.The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiv and gets its name from his having adorned the moon in his hair.

Sahastrabahu Kund
It is situated in the heart of Barkot village.According to local legend, cleaning of the Kund ensures rainfall. If monsoons are delayed in the region, the whole village gets together and cleans the Kund. After that they hold a havan and prepare prasad. It is believed that as soon as the prasad is distributed, it starts to rain.
