Sundarban National Park is located in World's largest Delta formed by the confluence of the rivers Ganga, Brahmaputra and Meghana. The Sundarban National Park, home of the Royal Bengal Tiger, covering an area of approximately 1330.10-sq-kms and Mangroves. The Sundarban region has got its name from Sundari trees, consist of a large flora population like Genwa, Dhundal, Passur, Garjan and Kankra. Apart from these trees, inpenetrable Goran trees between 1.8 metres and 3.6 metres high covers almost the entire region. One of the most remarkable feature of this place is the bayonet like roots of mangrove forests that stick out above the water level.
Sundarban National Park is the largest mangrove forest in the world, form the core of this area. Twenty-six of the fifty broad mangrove types found in the world grow well in the Sundarban. The commonly identifiable vegetation that grow in the dense mangrove forests at the Sundarbans are salt water mixed forest, mangrove scrub, brackish water mixed forest, littoral forest, wet forest and wet alluvial grass forests.
The most unique feature of the Sundarban is the tigers in the park apt at swimming and are strictly amphibious! The Park is also famous for its conservation of the Ridley Sea Turtles. The other wild animals found in the Sundarban National Park are estuarine terrapins, Olive Ridley turtles, estuarine crocodiles, Ganges dolphins, water monitors and a wide variety of birds, fish and crustaceans. One of the major tourist attractions is the Sajnekhali Visitors' Centre, which has a crocodile enclosure, a shark pond, a turtle hatchery, and a Mangrove Interpretation Centre.

Piyali Piyali is the gatway to Sundarbans, 72-kms from Kolkatta by road and close to Sajnekhali, Sudhanyakhali, Netidhopani through waterways. Sajnakhali Sanctuary
The Sajnakhali sanctuary, famous for its rich avian population, is regarded as a part of the Sunderbans National Park.The most sought after sights by a bird watcher are seven colourful species of Kingfisher, white bellied Sea Eagle, Plovers, Lap-Wings, Curfews, Whimbrels, Sandpipers and occasional Pelican.
